Wyobraska cattle sale news

The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending March 20, totaled 7,425 head, compared to 5,840 head last week and 2,280 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds sold steady to $5 higher, steers under 600 pounds were $1 to $3 higher and heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $3 higher. Demand was good. Direct trade was slow with demand moderate. Buyer and seller inquiry was moderate to light. Feeder steers were uneven, generally steady and heifers were not comparable. Available supplies becoming very limited in the country. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 57% of the supply, heifers 43%, with 73% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2375 head of the total receipts.

Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 440 lbs., 126.00; 460 to 485 lbs., 117.00 to 123.00; 520 to 545 lbs., 106.00 to 116.00; 770 lbs., 89.75.
