West Plains cattle sales report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 3,600 head March 2, compared to 4,969 head last week and 4,486 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers under 750 pounds and heifers under 650 pounds sold $2 to $4 higher, heavier yearlings were firm to mostly $2 higher. The supply was moderate, quality throughout not as attractive as last week. Demand was good to very good, with cattle more suitable for grass continuing top billing. The supply included 56% steers and 44% heifers, with nearly 30% weighting over 600 pounds.
