Watershed managementworkshop set for Jefferson City Missouri A two-day workshop for anyone seeking information on watershed planning and management will be held March 24 and 25 in Jefferson City, Mo. Target audiences include rural and urban elected officials having responsibility for watershed management, community volunteers and special interest groups, said Dan Downing, University of Missouri water quality specialist. "Water quality and quantity rank near the top of state and national environmental priorities. The workshop will provide an opportunity to review and discuss the types of information needed to best characterize and prioritize the condition of Missouri's watersheds," he said. Discussions include how to access information on water quality, watershed monitoring and modeling. Presenters also will discuss how to identify, develop and train local leadership and will suggest ways to obtain funds for watershed-related activities. Registration for the two-day workshop is $85, which includes lunch and a networking reception. One-day registration is $65 for either day. The workshop will be at the Capital Plaza Hotel. To register, contact Dan Downing at 1-877-426-7433. Sponsors include MU Extension, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri Department of Conservation and Missouri Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society.
