Walker honored as regional weed superintendentNebraska Morrill County Weed Superintendent Owen Walker, received the award for Outstanding County Weed Superintendent for the West Region during the Nebraska Weed Control Association's annual conference held Feb.17 and 18 in Kearney. Gary Petersen, president of NWCA, said a committee of weed superintendent peers, fellow professionals, and weed control specialists select award recipients. "Each year, the selection committee reviews letters of nomination, U.S. Department of Agriculture evaluation scores, participation in NWCA-sponsored meetings and workshops, and the overall professionalism and expertise of several candidates and nominees for the award," Petersen said. Mitch Coffin, Noxious Weed Program manager for the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, said Walker also received a personal letter of congratulations from Nebraska Director of Agriculture Merlyn Carlson. Carlson expressed his appreciation of the important contribution Walker has made in protecting Nebraska agriculture from the serious threat of noxious weeds. Date: 3/3/04
