UW to sponsor livestock judges' trainingWyoming Cooperative Extension Service (CES) educators from the University of Wyoming are teaming with CES agents from the University of Idaho and Utah State University to host a livestock judges' training event May 6 to 8 at the Utah State animal science facility south of Logan. The training is designed to help interested 4-H leaders, parents, producers and livestock enthusiasts gain hands-on education in livestock selection and evaluation. Participants will learn from a panel of experts what to look for in selecting and evaluating beef, swine and sheep. They will judge 12 classes of livestock, learn proper terminology for oral reasons and gain show-ring experience. Attendees will evaluate live animals as well as carcasses. Registration is limited to the first 75 applicants, and those interested must apply by April 1. The $150 fee includes four meals, curriculum materials and a judging notebook. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Ramada Limited at a cost of $45 for a single room and $50 for a double occupancy room. The price includes hot breakfasts. Shuttle service to and from the livestock facility will be available. For more information, contact CES educator, Dawn Sanchez of Uinta County at 307-783-0570. Date: 2/25/04
