The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending June 19 totaled 3,450 head, compared to 11,400 head last week and 1,900 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyoming.

Compared to last week, auction feeder steers and heifers sold firm to $3.00 higher under moderate to good demand. Direct trade was slow with demand moderate to good. Not enough comparable sales for good price comparison, few heifers weighing 725 pounds were $2 higher. Buyer and seller inquiry was moderate. Interest for late summer and fall contracting moderate to good. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 48% of the supply, heifers 52%, with 67% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2350 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 725 lbs., 117.50; 760 to 800 lbs., 115.85 to 120.35; 825 to 850 lbs., 111.00 to 116.85; 900 to 940 lbs., 104.00 to 110.00; 1125 lbs., 95.50. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 485 lbs., 125.00 October; 600 lbs., 121.00; 625 to 640 lbs., 116.00 to 118.00 October delivered; 700 lbs., 108.00 October delivered. Large frame 3, Holsteins 600 lbs., 92.00.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 710 to 765 lbs., 110.50 to 115.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 107.00 to 110.00; 870 to 900 lbs., 102.35 to 105.75; 1025 lbs., 93.25. Direct: Medium and large frame 1, 465 lbs., 118.00 October; 600 lbs., 111.00 October delivered; 725 lbs., 114.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 750 lbs., 107.50.
