State Fair winners will again receive prize moneyLINCOLN, Neb. (AP)--Winners in livestock and other State Fair competitions will receive prize money this year. Members of the Nebraska State Fair Board made the announcement at its meeting June 18. Last year, no prize money was offered because the event had lost its state funding. The Legislature this year restored what is called premium funding for 2004 totaling $153,000. Compared to the prizes offered in 2002, most livestock prizes have gone up. The amount available for dairy cattle prizes has more than doubled from about $6,000 to $13,000. Llamas saw an increase from about $1,000 to $5,000. There also will be a 5 percent increase in prize money available for both 4-H and FFA participants. This year's fair is scheduled for Aug. 28 through Sept. 6 in Lincoln. Date: 6/23/04
