St. Onge cattle sales report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales, Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,444 head June 18, compared to 1,504 head last week and 556 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to two weeks ago, feeder cattle not trended due to light receipts last sale but a higher undertone was noted especially on heifers. Feeder receipts included 24% steers, and 76% heifers, with 93% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows sold $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were mostly high dressing and sold steady with two weeks ago. Average dressing bulls sold $2 higher. Demand for replacement females seems to get stronger every week. Receipts were about 42% feeder cattle, 20% females back to the country, 19% pairs, 10% slaughter cows, 3% slaughter bulls, 3% baby calves and the balance was mostly feeder bulls.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 11 head, 549 lbs., 125.50 calves; 21 head, 636 lbs., 121.00 calves; 8 head, 657 lbs., 118.50; 16 head, 733 lbs., 111.75; 15 head, 762 to 769 lbs., 108.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 13 head, 615 to 624 lbs., 118.50 to 119.50 (119.12) gaunt; 14 head, 690 to 696 lbs., 111.50 to 113.50 (111.93) gaunt; 25 head, 744 lbs., 116.00 gaunt.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 14 head, 558 lbs., 123.50 calves; 6 head, 612 lbs., 115.00; 23 head, 637 lbs., 118.25 calves; 10 head, 704 lbs., 110.00; 70 head, 714 lbs., 109.00 full; 15 head, 761 lbs., 111.00; 70 head, 789 lbs., 112.50 value enhanced; 73 head, 828 lbs., 109.75; 18 head, 866 to 893 lbs., 99.50 to 104.25 (102.63). Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 7 head, 567 to 583 lbs., 116.50; 6 head, 554 lbs., 120.00 gaunt; 633 to 645 lbs., 111.50 to 115.00 (114.18); 11 head, 627 lbs., 118.00 gaunt; 5 head, 654 lbs., 116.00 gaunt; 15 head, 709 to 734 lbs., 102.50 to 104.75 (104.13); 16 head, 759 to 779 lbs., 103.00 to 103.50 (103.22).

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1185 to 1670 lbs., 55.00 to 59.50; high dressing, 60.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 852 to 1485 lbs., 53.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 60.50; low dressing, 49.00 to 52.00.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, heifers, 892 to 1000 lbs., 83.50 to 86.50; 2 years old, 818 to 1180 lbs., 70.00 to 79.00; heiferettes, 830 to 1335 lbs., 58.00 to 66.50; feeder cows, Large frame 1, 1378 to 1635 lbs., 57.00 to 61.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 905 to 1350 lbs., 53.75 to 59.00; younger and smooth, up to 61.00, older, thin or full, 50.00 to 53.00.

Baby calves: 335-lbs., 485.00; 230- to 280-lbs., 400.00 to 450.00; 180- to 240-lbs., 300.00 to 385.00; 150- to 175-lbs., 250.00 to 300.00; 115- to 130-lbs., 225.00 to 250.00; 85- to 90-lbs., 200.00 to 235.00; 6 head, Holstein heifers, 164 lbs., 375.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 13 head, 2 years old, black 1019 lbs., with 213-lb. black calves, 1300.00; 15 head, 4 to 6 years old, black 1264 lbs., with 251-lb. black calves, 1320.00; 4 head, solid to short solid, black 1250 lbs., with 160-lb. black calves, 1250.00; 8 head, solid to short solid, red and black 1340 to 1360 lbs., with 160- to 200-lb. red and black calves, 1165.00 to 1200.00; 3 head, short solid to broken, black 1250 lbs., with 250-lb. black calves, 1275.00; 24 head, short solid to broken, red and black 1161 to 1253 lbs., with 161- to 264-lb. red and black calves, 1130.00 to 1150.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 15 head, 3 to solid, Hereford 1187 lbs., with 164-lb. Hereford calves, 1095.00; 14 head, short solid to broken, Hereford 1146 lbs., with 200-lb. red-whiteface and black-whiteface calves, 1045.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1330 to 2550 lbs., average dressing, 66.00 to 68.50; high dressing, 69.00 to 71.75; low dressing, 58.50 to 61.00.
