Newell sheep sales report
St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 1,542 head June 17, compared to 909 head last week and 736 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Feeder lambs offered in more liberal numbers than last week sold mostly steady with 80- to 100-pound lambs selling $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter ewes sold steady with last week. Receipts were about 71% feeder lambs; 15% slaughter ewes, 13% replacement ewes and the balance was bucks, goats and misc. sheep.
Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 51 to 55 lbs., 133.00 to 134.50 (133.31); 8 head, 58 head, 125.00 short dock; 64 to 68 lbs., 124.50 to 128.50 (127.94); 71 to 76 lbs., 122.00 to 125.50 (124.95); 5 head, 70 head, 70 lbs., 116.00 Black face; 6 head, 78 lbs., 117.00 Shorn; 84 to 89 lbs., 109.00 to 119.00 (112.10); 90 to 98 lbs., 108.50 to 114.50 (111.92); 29 head, 94 lbs., 103.00 Black face; 13 head, 92 lbs., 110.00 Full; 111 to 116 lbs., 104.00 to 110.00 (108.94); 76 head, 131 lbs., 103.50.
Slaughter ewes: Shorn, 55 head, Good Yield grade 2 to 3, 162 lbs., 32.25; 48 head, Good, Yield grade 2 to 4, 201 lbs., 26.25; 41 head, Utility, Yield grade 1 and 2, 146 lbs., 31.25; 72 head, Cull, Yield grade 1, 137 lbs., 27.50.
Replacement ewes: Shorn, whiteface, Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 80 head, 2 to 4 years olds, 168 lbs., 84.00 to 87.00 per head; 26 head, 2 to 4 years old, 158 lbs., 82.00 per head; 86 head, 5 to 6 years old, 165 lbs., 73.00 per head.
Aged bucks: 9 head, fleshy, 252 lbs., 26.25.
