The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending July 17 totaled 3,650 head, compared to 7,800 head last week and 6,150 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.

Compared to last week at the Wyoming auctions, too few comparable feeder steer and heifer sales for a good test. Direct trade on feeder steers and heifers not fully tested. Direct trade slow. Demand was moderate to good. Buyer and seller inquiry moderate. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 47% of the supply, heifers 53%, with 93% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2565 head of the total receipts.

Steers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 315 lbs., 151.00 to 161.00; 575 lbs., 130.00; 640 to 675 lbs., 123.00 to 129.00; 730 to 775 lbs., 117.00 to 121.00; 760 to 800 lbs., 121.00 to 123.25; 815 to 900 lbs., 114.25 to 118.25; 900 to 920 lbs., 119.00 to 123.00; 990 to 1020 lbs., 112.00 to 114.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2 700 to 730 lbs., 108.00 to 113.50; 830 to 860 lbs., 111.00. Large frame 1, 710 to 770 lbs., 118.00 to 123.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 925 to 950 lbs., 108.00 August.

Heifers: Auctions, Medium and large frame 1, 640 to 650 lbs., 120.00 to 121.50; 715 to 760 lbs., 113.00 to 117.00; 825 to 835 lbs., 114.00 to 119.00; 940 lbs., 105.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 730 to 735 lbs., 114.00 to 118.50. Medium and large frame 2, 530 lbs., 120.00. Direct, Medium and large frame 1, 500 lbs., 125.00 October; 700 lbs., 116.00; 825 lbs., 111.00 current to August; 830 lbs., 114.00 September delivered.
