St. Onge cattle sales report

The St. Onge Livestock Sales, Co., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 823 head July 16, compared to 623 head last week and 344 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, trends on feeder cattle not applicable due to light receipts. Feeder receipts were 41% steers and 59% heifers, with 86% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows sold steady with last week. Slaughter bulls sold $2 higher. Like last week weigh to up cattle displayed weigh to up in buyers favor. The receipts were about 31% pairs, 20% slaughter cows, 15% spring calves, 13% feeder cattle, 13% females back to the country, 6% slaughter bulls and the balance was mostly feeder bulls.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 8 head, 512 lbs., 128.50 calves; 15 head, 651 to 679 lbs., 116.50 to 116.75 (116.61) calves.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 14 head, 638 to 644 lbs., 114.00 to 115.00 (114.57) calves; 19 head, 957 lbs., 92.75 to 93.25 (92.99) fleshy.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1605 to 2035 lbs., 58.75 to 60.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1195 to 1622 lbs., 59.00 to 61.50; low dressing, 55.00 to 57.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 940 to 1455 lbs., 56.00 to 61.00; high dressing, 62.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 50.00 to 55.00.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 2 years old, few, 940 to 1130 lbs., 69.50 to 76.50. Heiferettes, few, 860 to 1220 lbs., 61.00 to 68.00. Feeder cows, Large frame 1, 1375 to 1645 lbs., 58.50 to 62.00, couple full, 56.00 to 57.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 1035 to 1365 lbs., 57.50 to 63.00. Younger and smooth, 64.00 to 65.00. Thin or full, 51.00 to 55.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 16 head, short solid to broken, black-black whiteface 1215 lbs., with 356-lb. black-black whiteface calve, 1285.00; 3 head, broken, black 1110 lbs., with 193-lb. black calve, 1215.00; 5 head, broken, black, 1251 lbs., with 302-lb. black calves, 1135.00; 6 head, broken, black-black whiteface, 1233 lbs., with 313-lb. black calves, 1075.00; 23 head, broken, Hereford, 1125 lbs., with 238-lb. Hereford calves, 990.00; 12 head, broken, black 1261 lbs., with 137-lb. black calves, 970.00. Large frame 1, 23 head, short solid to broken, black-black whiteface, 1384 lbs., with 365-lb. black and red calves, 1320.00; 9 head, broken, black-black whiteface, 1355 lbs., with 326-lb. black-black whiteface calves, 1300.00; 5 head, young to short solid, black-black whiteface, 1356 lbs., with 198-lb. black and red calves, 1275.00; 6 head, broken, red-whiteface, 1393 lbs., with 323-lb. mix calves, 1205.00; 3 solid to short solid, red whiteface, 1406 lbs., with 207-lb. black and red calves, 1185.00.

Spring calves: Steers, 345 to 405 lbs., 530.00 to 590.00; 325 to 330 lbs., 500 to 510; 339 lbs., thin, 410.00; 260 to 285 lbs., 430.00 to 460.00; 222 to 248 lbs., 370.00 to 410.00; 193 lbs., 310.00; 150 to 185 lbs., 200.00 to 260.00. 105 to 140 lbs., 185.00 to 235.00. Heifers, 355 to 370 lbs., 470.00 to 535.00; 315 to 352 lbs., 410.00 to 480.00; 218 to 285 lbs., 325.00 to 370.00; 175 to 190 lbs., 235.00 to 275.00; 113 to 140 lbs., 200.00 to 240.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1430 to 2415 lbs., 71.25 to 76.00; high dressing, 77.25 to 80.00; low dressing, 68.50 to 69.75.
