Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 2,630 head July 15, compared to 1,518 head last week and 1,197 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, attractive quality feeder lambs sold mostly $2 to $3 lower, except those weighing 80 to 90 pounds sold $6 lower. Slaughter ewes sold steady to $1 lower on the Good ewes. Several buyers for the replacement ewes. Receipts were about 85% feeder lambs, 6% slaughter ewes and the balance was slaughter lambs, bucks, and miscellaneous sheep and goats.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 20 head, 42 lbs., 136.00; 54 to 58 lbs., 128.00 to 131.00 129.34; 63 to 67 lbs., 118.50 to 125.00 (122.41); 70 to 74 lbs., 120.00 to 123.00 (121.74); 80 to 89 lbs., 109.00 to 116.25 (112.09); 90 to 99 lbs., 100.50 to 109.50 (107.60); 100 to 108 lbs., 100.00 to 104.25 (101.98); 27 head, 107 lbs., 98.00 fleshy; 22 head, 105 lbs., 94.00 full; 111 to 119 lbs., 95.50 to 99.75 (98.72); 27 head, 114 lbs., 96.25 black face; 6 head, 118 lbs., 78.00 buck lambs. Medium frame 1 and 2, 10 head, 47 lbs., 126.00.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled, Choice yield grade 2 and 3, 14 head, 123 lbs., 90.25; 7 head, 149 lbs., 88.50.

Slaughter ewes: Shorn, 39 head, Good, yield grade 2 to 3, 177 lbs., 38.00; 38 head, Good, yield grade 2 to 4, 191 lbs., 35.00; 8 head, Good, yield grade 2 to 4, 207 lbs., 37.50; 54 head, Utility, yield grade 1 and 2, 149 lbs., 35.00; 13 head, Cull, yield grade 1, 134 lbs., 31.50.

Replacement ewes: Whiteface, 56 head, yearling, 147 lbs., 172.00; 13 head, yearling to 3 years old, 138 lbs., 91.00; 40 head, 4 years to short solid, 149 lbs., 76.00.
