NU crop clinics set for Aug. 18, 26Nebraska A Crop Management and Diagnostic Clinic on August 18 will provide a close-up look at late-season field conditions. Agribusiness professionals and crop producers will learn from research and techniques at this clinic held at the University of Nebraska Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the clinic starts at 8 a.m. The clinic provides the ideal setting for participants to take a late season look at crops and to learn from noted subject matter specialists in areas important to crop production profitability noted Keith Glewen, NU Extension educator. Topics to be covered include: Successful alfalfa establishment techniques, corn and soybean disease diagnostics, corn pollination problems, tillage and tires--their effects on compaction, and using remote imaging technology to diagnose crop problems. Early registration is $125 until Aug. 11. After that, registration is $175. Approximately 9 Certified Crop Advisor credits are anticipated in pest management (3.0), crop production (4.5), and soil & water (1.5). An introductory precision farming clinic will be held on Aug. 26 starting at 7:30 a.m. This training is designed for producers and consultants looking for assistance in launching their precision agriculture program according to Dave Varner, NU Extension educator. Individuals considering implementing precision agriculture technologies or just beginning to use them should plan to attend this clinic. Topics include: Precision agriculture overview, yield monitor basics, global positioning systems (GPS), establishing farm geographic information systems (GIS), and the dollars and sense of precision ag. Early registration is $125 until August 19. After that, registration is $175. Approximately 6.0 Certified Crop Advisor credits are anticipated in soil fertility (1.0) and crop production (5.0). NU Cooperative Extension, a division of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, is sponsoring the clinics.
