McAlester cattle sales report

The McAlester Union Stockyards, McAlester, Okla., reported receipts of 1,800 head July 21, compared to 1,550 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, lightweight stocker cattle were steady. Stocker cattle weighing 400 to 500 pounds were $1 to $2 lower. Cattle over 500 pounds were $5 lower. There was a good attendance of buyers and trade was moderate to active. Quality was plain to mostly average. Cattle were in thin to fleshy condition. There was a much larger number of fleshy cattle on the yards, compared to weeks past. Receipts were comprised of 58% steers, 34% heifers with 32% feeder cattle over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows were mostly steady, with exception of lower end lean cows, $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 lower. Moderate interest in bred cows, limited test on pairs. A total of 350 cows and bulls sold with 47% going to packers.

Medium and large frame 2, 6 head, 310 to 345 lbs., 131.00 to 141.00 (136.61); 18 head, 350 to 395 lbs., 131.00 to 139.00 (135.32); 12 head, 400 to 440 lbs., 119.00 to 130.00 (126.95); 450 to 490 lbs., 113.00 to 127.50 (122.52); 503 to 545 lbs., 107.50 to 114.00 (111.78); 558 to 598 lbs., 107.00 to 114.00 (111.87); 9 head, 610 to 648 lbs., 102.00 to 111.00 (107.54). Slaughter cows: Breakers, 10 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1575 lbs., 58.50 to 59.00; high dressing, 62.00; low dressing, 54.00 to 54.50. Boners, 50 head, 80 to 85% lean, 900 to 1350 lbs., 55.00 to 58.50; high dressing, 59.00 to 62.50; low dressing, 51.50 to 54.50. Lean, 25 head, 85 to 90% lean, 950 to 1200 lbs., 52.50 to 55.50; low dressing, 48.00 to 51.50. Light, 25 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 46.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 54.25 to 57.00; low dressing, 39.50 to 43.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 32 head, 1425 to 2275 lbs., 71.50 to 75.00; high dressing, 75.50 to 79.00; low dressing, 65.50 to 70.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 4 to 8 years old, 850 to 1400 lbs., 4 to 8 months bred, average, blacks 810.00 to 930.00.
