Ft. Smith auction report

The Ft. Smith Livestock Auction, Fort Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 685 head July 19, compared to 1,156 head last week and 1,252 head last years, according to the USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Feeder steers under 450 pounds were $3 to $5 higher and calves over 475 pounds were mostly steady. Feeder heifers were steady to $3 higher. The supply included 322 feeder calves, 240 feeder yearlings, 37 replacement cows, 67 slaughter cows, 17 slaughter bulls, and 2 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% exotic breed and exotic crosses, 30% Brahma and Brahma cross, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply was about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 52.00 to 57.50; high dressing, 58.00 to 64.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 50.50 to 55.50; high dressing, 56.00 to 62.50; low dressing, 44.00 to 50.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 51.50 to 56.50; high dressing, 57.00 to 63.00; low dressing, 45.00 to 51.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 67.00 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.00 to 83.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 350 lbs., 135.00 to 162.50 (146.47); 350 to 400 lbs., 132.50 to 150.00 (139.78); 400 to 450 lbs., 120.00 to 150.00 (130.43); 450 to 500 lbs., 110.00 to 135.00 (121.29); 500 to 550 lbs., 117.00 to 127.00 (120.21); 550 to 600 lbs., 108.00 to 123.00 (113.86); 600 to 650 lbs., 105.00 to 114.00 (110.68); 650 to 700 lbs., 105.00 to 115.00 (109.19); 700 to 750 lbs., 101.00 to 103.00 (102.52). Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 2 to 4 years old, 750 to 1200 lbs., open cows, 61.50 to 83.00; 4 to 7 years old, 800 to 1100 lbs., open cows, 69.50 to 78.00; 6 to 10 years old, 850 to 1350 lbs., open cows, 51.50 to 61.50; 2 to 7 years old, 1000 to 1250 lbs., second stage, 54.50 to 69.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 2 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 900.00 to 1150.00 per pair; 6 to 10 years old, 950 to 1150 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 850.00 to 950.00 per pair.
