Hillis Akin Ranch to complete dispersal

Texas

The Hillis Akin Ranch Complete Dispersal on Saturday, Sept. 11, in Gainesville, Texas, offers horsemen a rare opportunity. In addition to six top Quarter Horse performance sires and 140 head of performance-bred horses of all ages, all ranch equipment, as well as the ranch itself, will be offered for sale.

The sale will begin at 10 a.m. with the auction of equipment and the ranch itself, in two tracts. All of the ranch equipment, including trucks, trailers, tractors and implements will be sold. The first tract of real estate includes 110 acres of highly improved horse property with an indoor arena, 110 stalls, a covered round pen, and a three-bedroom home. The second tract consists of 20 acres of vacant pastureland.

At 11 a.m., the sale of the 135 horses will begin. "The names of the stallions are household words in the performance horse world," said Jim Ware of Western Bloodstock, the auction company that will handle the sale of the horses, as well as the ranch equipment and property. "This has been a very successful breeding program."

Hillis Akin, a fur designer and retailer, began his horse program in 1992 with the best performance mares available. "It has always been my philosophy that it is mandatory to have great broodmares in a breeding program," explained Akin, who has bred the earners of more than a million dollars.

Akins' illustrious broodmare band has placed Hillis Akin Ranch on the leading breeders lists of the American Quarter Horse Association, the National Cutting Horse Association, the National Reining Horse Association, and the National Reined Cow Horse Association.

Miss Dual Doc, the dam of all-time leading sire Dual Pep was among Akins' original broodmares. Nitro Dual Doc and the young stallion Im Chairman were raised by Akin out of Miss Dual Doc and are both selling, along with the stallions Steady Tradition, an NRHA 2003 Top 20 Leading Sire; Mr Gallo Del Cielo "Blue Duck," with 56.5 AQHA points in heading, heeling and calf roping; Chics Sundance, by Smart Chic Olena; and Chics Renegade, NRHA earner of over $40,000.

In addition to the stallions, more than 50 broodmares will be sold, including four daughters of Smart Little Lena; three daughters of Peppy San Badger; two daughters of Freckles Playboy; three daughters of Smart Chic Olena; six daughters of Reminic; and two daughters of Jae Bar Fletch.

Among the broodmares are the Jae Bar Fletch daughter Hopefletchly, earner of $111,786 and a two-time member of the NCHA Top Ten; the Colonel Freckles daughter Gay Freckles Rio, a leading NRHA and NRCHA producer; and Sons Royal Jazabell, a full sister to NCHA Futurity champion July Jazz and the producer of seven money earners, including an NCHA Futurity finalist.

In addition to the stallions and broodmares, the sale will include two and three-year-old cutting, reining and working cowhorse prospects, as well as the entire yearling and weanling foal crops, many of which are roans and palominos.

The Hillis Akin Ranch Sale will be held on Saturday, following EE Ranches' Breeders Production Sale on Friday, September 10 in Whitesboro, Texas. Hillis Akin Ranch and EE Ranches Stallion Station are conveniently located less that 15 miles from each other. Both sales are managed by Western Bloodstock.
