Yost announced as FSA associate administrator

U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator James R. Little announced the appointment of Michael W. Yost of Murdock, Minn., as FSA's Associate Administrator for Programs, beginning Jan. 12, 2004. In this position, Yost will be responsible for supervising and administering farm commodity programs, farm loans, conservation programs and disaster assistance.

"Michael Yost will be a great addition to our team," said Little. "He has a diverse background with the agricultural production industry and Agency-specific programs, and he brings a tremendous amount of first-hand experience and knowledge to the Agency."

Yost produces corn, soybeans, Wheat and alfalfa on his family farm and is a member of the National Biodiesel Board and the USDA/Department of Energy Biomass Advisory Board. In the late 1990s, Yost was Chairman of the American Soybean Association and the American Oilseed Coalition. As chairman of the American Soybean Association, he promoted the use of U.S. soybeans and soybean products worldwide on behalf of American producers. While chairman of the American Oilseed Coalition, his goal was to achieve enhanced market opportunities for oilseed growers across the nation.

Yost holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Business Administration from the University of Minnesota. His wife Sandra is heavily involved with the family businesses. They have two sons: Michael, who works for a member of Congress and David, who is a Junior at the University of Minnesota.

FSA ensures the well-being of American agriculture, the environment, and the American public through efficient and equitable administration of farm commodity programs, farm ownership, operating and emergency loans, conservation and environmental programs, emergency and disaster assistance, domestic and international food assistance, and international export credit programs.
