Walth elected secretary

South Dakota

After serving as the South Dakota Cattlemen's interim secretary for the last few months, Becky Walth was elected to the position at the SCDA annual convention Dec. 3 and 4.

Walth is on the South Dakota Beef Industry Council board of directors, and represents Northern Oahe Cattlemen's Association on the SDCA board of directors. She is one of the five directors from SDBIC on the board of NCBA. Serving on the executive committee for the National Beef Cookoff, she is playing a major part in organizing the 2005 Beef Cookoff, which will be in Rapid City.

Last summer she and her husband, Allen, attended the New York State Fair on behalf of SDBIC, passing out beef samples and promoting beef to fair attendees.

The Walths have run their cow-calf operation near Glenham, in north-central South Dakota, for 27 years. They background their calves until late spring. On the other side of agriculture they irrigate corn, soybeans and alfalfa.

Becky attended South Dakota State University, earning a degree in home economics education. After graduation she taught school and worked for state government. Five years ago she returned to the farm/ranch, working hand-in-hand with her husband, which she says has been "a great joy."

Becky and Allen have two children, Steven, who is an agriculture test engineer for MacDon in California, and Kristi, a fifth year pharmacy student at SDSU.

When Becky has time, she likes going to auctions and collecting "stuff."
