Veneman names Eichhorst director of intergovernmental affairsWASHINGTON, D.C.--Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman announced "I am very pleased that Jim Eichhorst will be joining the USDA team," said Veneman. "His experience in agriculture and in the legislative and regulatory process will be valuable assets in this new assignment." Eichhorst will work closely with multiple levels of government to ensure USDA programs, policies and procedures are coordinated with states, other agencies and Congress. Eichhorst, a corn and soybean farmer from Champaign, Illinois, formerly served USDA as the Director of External Affairs with the Farm Service Agency. Most recently, he was the marketing manager for American Farm Bureau Insurance Services, Inc. His experience includes work for Congressmen Timothy V. Johnson and Thomas W. Ewing. Eichhorst also has served at the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Illinois Corn Growers Association. Eichhorst has a B.S. in Agriculture Education from the University of Illinois. He began his work at USDA on Dec. 15. Date: 1/15/04
