Veneman announces beefpromotion board appointments Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman on Dec. 9 announced 35 appointments to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board. All appointees will serve 3 year terms beginning Jan. 31, 2004. "I am pleased that these individuals have agreed to provide their time and expertise to serve on this board," Veneman said. The board is composed of 108 members representing 35 states, four units and importers. USDA selects appointees from cattle producers and importers nominated by organizations representing beef, dairy, veal and importer interests. Appointed members representing cattle producers by state and unit are: James M. Webb, Arizona; Richard L. Nock and I. Jack Cowley, California; Wade W. Zimmerman, Colorado; Michael H. Cline and Stanley J. Zylstra, Iowa; Ronald M. Estes and Don H. Hullman, Kansas; T. Barrett Porter, Louisiana; Charles E. Markley, Michigan; Greg P. Hilgeman, Minnesota; Charles R. Hull, Mississippi; Jerry R. King, Missouri; David L. McCracken and Nancy J. Meyring, Nebraska; Steven E. Lucas, Nevada; Margaret D. McKeen, New Mexico; R. Mark Pendleton, North Carolina; B. David Boyer, Oklahoma; Gary R. Sharp and Patricia A. Blum, South Dakota; Walter Mac Pate, Tennessee; Charles A. Kiker, III, Walter E. Lasley, Hope Huffman and Peter F. Case, Texas; Richard V. Nielson, Utah; Nancy Lu Thomas and Mark E. Riechers, Wisconsin; Dianne S. Kirkbride, Wyoming; Aquilla M. Ward, Mid Atlantic Unit; Lucinda M. Williams, Northeast Unit; and Jennifer A. Senn, Southeast Unit. Appointed to represent importers are Laurie I. Bryant and Greg E. Silpe. The 108 member board is authorized by the Beef Promotion and Research Act of 1985. USDA selected the appointees from beef, veal and dairy producers, and importers nominated by certified organizations. USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service monitors operation of the board.
