USDA, FS4JK announce partnershipOn July 8, 2002, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Farm Safety 4 Just Kids (FS4JK) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The Farm Service Agency and Farm Safety 4 Just Kids have formed this partnership to provide informational programs, training, increase farm safety education, and to promote of age-appropriate guidelines for children and their families. The goal of the partnership is to help save lives on family farms through cooperative programs. "Farm safety is important to everyone but especially to kids. That is why we have formed a partnership with Farm Safety 4 Just Kids to help promote practices to reduce farm incidents that injure or kill many children and youth on an annual basis," said Cliff Herron, Outreach Director for USDA's Farm Service Agency. Earlier this year, FSA released the MOU to all FSA State and county offices, which authorizes FSA to support joint efforts between FSA and FS4JK to motivate and empower individuals, farm families, and communicate, facilitate, and make positive changes regarding youth farm safety issues. "FSA is a wonderful match to the audience we serve," said Marilyn Adams, Spokesperson, Founder, and President for Farm Safety 4 Just Kids. Our partnership will open doors for rural farm families and will help benefit the future of agriculture and our children." Iowa Senator Tom Harkin was instrumental in his support of the FS4JK/FSA partnership. In response to his support, a model for partnership reproduction is currently being piloted in Iowa with excellent results thus far. FSA has also become a financial supporter of Farm Safety 4 Just Kids for 2004. For more information on Farm Service Agency activities in your area, please call (800) 423-5437. Date: 1/2/04
