Wyobraska cattle sales
The combined sales volume at Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Jan. 31 totaled 9,100 head, compared to 10,200 head last week and 8,000 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.
Compared to last week, feeder steers weighing 500 to 550 pounds were $2 to $4 higher, 550 to 650 pounds were steady to $3 lower, over 650 pounds were $3 to $5 lower, feeder heifers under 500 pounds were steady to $3 lower, over 500 pounds were $2 to $5 lower. Demand was moderate to good. Direct trade steers and heifers were $1 to $3 lower on comparable sales. Trade was moderate with demand moderate to good. Buyer and seller inquiry was moderate. Unless otherwise stated prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3% shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 53% of the supply, heifers 47% with 65% weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 2015 head of the total receipts.
