Women's Building to be highlighted at New Mexico Ag ExpoNew Mexico A building with activities of interest to area women will be one of the highlights at this year's New Mexico Ag Expo Feb. 24 and 25 at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds in Portales. The Ag Expo Women's Building will house vendors selling items, such as jewelry, candles, crafts, cookware and much more. Quilt displays, a style show, and cooking and floral demonstrations are also scheduled. According to Gaynelle Thomas, chairman of the Women's Building, activities will take place all day Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday's activities will include a quilt show at 9 a.m. The James Elementary School third grade choir will entertain at 1:30 p.m.; followed by a style show at 2 p.m. Clothes will be provided by local merchants and modeled by local models. On Wednesday at 11 a.m., a cooking demonstration by Carmen Matthews of Pampered Chef, will take place, as well as a 2 p.m. floral demonstration by Rose Riley of Katie's Flowerland. A floral arrangement will be given away to a member of the audience. Quilts will be displayed throughout the Women's Building, as well as in the Pavilion Art Room. Anyone who would like to enter a quilt in the show is invited to do so. Contact the number below for more information and quilt show rules. The deadline to enter a quilt is Feb. 18. Two quilt seminars, sponsored by The Print Shop, will take place in the Women's Building during the Ag Expo. The seminars include "Dating Fabrics and Quilts" at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and "How To Repair Old Quilts," at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
