West Plains regional sales
The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 2,225 head Feb. 3, compared to 1,900 last week and 2,694 last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.
Compared to last week, steers and heifers were steady to $2 lower, although light steer calves weighing 350 to 450 pounds sold $3 to $7 lower. However, steers weighing 500 to 550 pounds and heifers 450 to 550 pounds and that were suitable for grass were steady to $2 higher. The supply was light, and the majority of the quality and condition were more attractive than last week. Demand was moderate to mostly good, even though lightweight steer calves backed off of last week's highs, perhaps due to limited numbers. The feeder supply included 54% steers and 46% heifers. Nearly 36% weighed over 600 pounds.
