West Plains cattle sales

The Ozarks Regional Stockyard, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 4,600 head Feb. 17, compared to 2,372 head last week and 3,073 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers weighing under 650 pounds and heifers under 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher, with several 450 to 550 pounds, heifers were $2 to $3 higher, heavier yearlings were mostly steady. The supply was moderate. Demand was very good, however, buyers were noticeably more aggressive for better quality and uniform lots. No fat cattle trade was reported. Dress trade reported stronger, Choice 600 to 900 and up .67 at 125.56. Both live and feeder contracts closed mixed, near term higher, deferred lower. The supply included 54% steers and 46% heifers. Nearly 35% weighed over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 and 2, package, 344 lbs., 126.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 114.00 to 122.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 108.00 to 117.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 106.00 to 117.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 100.00 to 110.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 88.50 to 95.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 82.50 to 90.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 81.00 to 86.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 78.00 to 82.00.
