Warm weather greets Limousin show champsAn unseasonably warm, sunny day greeted the crowd gathered to view the 2004 National Limousin Show, held in conjunction with the National Western Stock Show. Judge Dave Duello, Abingdon, Ill., kept the pace lively as he moved through the classes, sorting and talking each class with efficiency. At the end of the female competition, Duello slapped MAGS Fruitful 487M, owned by Magness Land & Cattle, Platteville, Colo., and DJ Limousin, Port Orchard, Wash., as 2004 National Limousin Show grand champion and division V champion female. Fruitful is a 1/5/2002 daughter of EXLR Limited Edition 765J. For reserve grand champion female and reserve champion of division V, Duello chose JSTH Angels Centerfold, a 2/2/2002 daughter of EXLR Dakota 353G owned by Carrousel Farms, Mineral Point, Wis., and Straight Limousin, Logan, Iowa. The excitement that has surrounded the EXLR New Generation 071M bull from the very beginning of the Limousin show season continued throughout events National Western, culminating with New Generation being slapped 2004 National Limousin Show grand champion bull. Out of division IV, the bull is a 3/9/2002 son of AUTO Black Dakota 129J. New Generation was chosen champion People's Choice bull of the National Limousin Sale Show. Further, in the 2004 National Limousin Sale, 25 percent semen interest in the bull sold for $130,000. This bull also won grand champion honors at Level 1 Limousin Medal of Excellence shows in both Louisville and Kansas City. The New Generation bull is owned by Express Ranches, Yukon, Okla., Magness Land & Cattle, Deer Valley Farm, Fayetteville, Tenn., and Oak Knoll Farm, Clinton, S.C., with the 25 percent interest selling at the National Sale to the New Generation Group. In an equally tight competition, EF Main Stay 541M was chosen as reserve grand champion and division III champion bull. Main Stay is owned by Etherton Farms, Dawson, Ill., Magness Land & Cattle, and Express Ranches and is a 9/20/2002 son of AUTO Black Dakota 129J. Division I female champion, EXLR Luvly 7127N, a 3/25/2003 daughter of AUTO Black Dakota 129J owned by Express Ranches and Summers Limousin, Independence, Mo. Reserve champion, Carrousels Nina 3354N, owned by Carrousel Farms, is a 3/11/2003 daughter of Wulf's Fanfare 4055F. Division II champion, MAGS Night Creature, owned by Magness Land & Cattle is a 2/5/2003 daughter of AUTO Black Dakota 129J. Magness also had the reserve champion, division II, with MAGS Nothing in Common, a 1/6/2003 daughter of Anders Jag. EXLR Duchess 213M, a 9/12/2002 daughter of AUTO Black Dakota 129J, was named champion of division III and is owned by Michael Lance Mitchell, Mangum, Okla. WIN Vue Blaque Ruby 273 received reserve division champion honors for division III and is a 9/4/2002 daughter of GPFF Blaque Rulon owned by Phillip Shelton, Petersburg, TN. Division IV champion was MAGS Marquee, a 5/3/2002 daughter of EXLR Dakota 353G owned by Megan Perry, Grove, Okla. Division IV reserve was MAGS Manda, a 4/30/2002 daughter of EXLR Dakota 353G owned by Magness Land & Cattle and DJ Limousin, Port Orchard, Wash. JBRH Sheza Looker, a 9/25/2001 daughter of EXLR Dakota 353G, was division VI champion and is owned by Magness Land & Cattle and JB Ranch, Lynden, Wash. Division VI reserve, a 9/1/2001 daughter of EXLR Dakota 353G, AUTO Lana 255L, is owned by Pinegar Limousin, Springfield, MO. Cow Calf division champion, owned by Magness Land & Cattle, was MAGS Mandarin 308L, a 1/24/2001 daughter of EXLR Dakota 353G. Mandarin showed with a bull calf by MDRC Lucky Strike at side. In the bull divisions, division I champion was MAGS North Dakota, a 5/13/2003 son of DJ Gentlemen in Black owned by Magness Land & Cattle. Division I reserve was JCL Full Force 53N, a 5/9/2003 son of RADS Black Prodigy owned by Eden Run Farms, JCL Division, Welch, Okla. Division II champion was Carrousels NASDAQ, a 2/27/2003 son of AUTO Black Dakota 129J owned by Carrousel Farms and Minerich Land & Cattle, Richmond, KY. Division II reserve was EXLR News Cast 7148N, a 3/27/2003 son of Wulf's Guardian 5074G owned by Express Ranches. Division III reserve champion is ALEV Deadset 1001M, a 10/3/2002 son of EXLR Dakota 353G owned by Alex Vaughn, Fayetteville, Tenn. Division IV reserve champion was EXLR Marlin 7115M, a 3/16/2002 son of EXLR Polled Benchmark 709G owned by Express Ranches and Simmons Limousin, Coolville, Ohio. Division V champion was EXLR Fully Loaded 419L, a 11/7/2001 son of AUTO Black Dakota 129J owned by Deer Valley Farms, Express Ranches, Magness Land & Cattle and Maple Lane, Enon Valley, Penn. Division VI champion was MAGS Late Flight, a 3/4/2001 son of EXLR Dakota 353G owned by Magness Land & Cattle. Division VI reserve was EXLR Polled Benchmark 145L, a 3/21/2001 son of EXLR Polled Benchmark 709G owned by High Point Ranch, Marysville, Calif., and Express Ranches. --------SIDEBAR---------- Sands named herdsman of year, Magness awarded premier breeder, exhibitor Craig Sands, herdsman for Carrousel Farms, Mineral Point, Wis., was named by his peers as the 2003 Limousin Herdsman of the Year. The honor recognizes a herdsman who exemplified superb management and presentation, as well as work ethic, sportsmanship and Limousin breed promotion throughout the previous year. Magness Land & Cattle, Platteville, Colo., was awarded both Limousin premier breeder and Limousin premier exhibitor honors for 2003.
