Wide array of events highlight 50th anniversary show

The 3i Show has been an annual event highlighting western Kansas agriculture and industry for 50 years.

The Western Kansas Manufacturers' Association, in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 3i Show, has announced a full slate of activities and events leading up to and during the 2004 show.

The WKMA annual meeting will be held Feb. 27, 2004, which will be followed, during the month of March, by "3i Show in Motion," an art deco contest in which participants will decorate tractor models for display throughout Great Bend. The models will later be displayed during the 3i Show's kick-off parade.

Early in March, the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce will also feature the sale of 50th Anniversary 3i Show event buttons.

At 10:00 a.m. on April 2, to commemorate 50 years of the 3i Show, a time capsule will be buried on the WKMA grounds at 1700 E. Wyatt Earp Blvd. in Dodge City. Later that day, the 50th Anniversary 3i Show golf tournament will kick off at the Dodge City Country Club. The four-person scramble tournament will have a shotgun start at noon. Proceeds will benefit the WKMA scholarship fund.

Later in the month, 3i Show organizers will hold a press conference to update the public on the 2004 show's events. It will take place April 16 at 11:30 a.m. at the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce Expo Center.

The 50th 3i Show will kick off the evening of April 22 with "Back to the Fifties," a parade in downtown Great Bend. In addition, a Country Music Spectacular will take place in the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium and Town Square the evening of April 23.

At 8:00 a.m. on April 24, "Vintage Saturday in Motion" will take place at the 3i Motor Speedway. The event will feature vintage race cars, tractors, motorcycles, trucks and members of the Central Mud Boggers Association at the new racing venue.

For more information about any of these events, contact Cindy Estes by phone at 620-227-8082, by fax at 620-227-8090, e-mail at 3ishow@cjnetworks.com. Direct mail inquiries to: WKMA, P. O. Box 1382, Dodge City, Kan., 67801-1382.
