Vice President Dickerson to retire from USWAU.S. Wheat Associates announced recently that Paul Dickerson, vice president of overseas operations, will leave the organization on June 30. "I am leaving USWA with very mixed feelings," Dickerson announced. "I am sorry to leave a job that I enjoy, and where I work with some of the most committed and expert group of people ever to develop overseas commodity markets. On the other hand, however, I can look toward the next phase of my life with the peace of mind knowing that the U.S. Wheat market is being tended to by a superb group of people at U.S. Wheat Associates." Dickerson has worked in the grain trade for over 40 years, starting as a young trader in 1960. For the past eight years, he has directed the market development activities of USW's overseas offices, after joining USWA in 1992 and serving in Singapore as regional vice president of the South Asian region. "Helping to lead USWA adjustments to changing global market situations has been an undertaking that I wouldn't have missed for the world," Dickerson explained. "The grain trade has changed tremendously over the last ten years, and working with new buyers around the world has been fun, tough, challenging, and ultimately very rewarding." "I am proud that our initiatives in the export markets have contributed to the prosperity of America's Wheat farmers," Dickerson said. "It wasn't easy, but we've accomplished much." Alan Tracy, USWA president, spoke glowingly of Dickerson's service to the Wheat industry. "Although we know that Paul richly deserves to step back from full-time work in developing our overseas Wheat markets, we also know that the industry will miss Paul's in-depth knowledge and experience," Tracy remarked. "He has contributed to Wheat sales for decades, most recently by directing our overseas operations and by personally taking on the task of educating new buyers around the world." "Even more important," Tracy said, "Paul has been irreplaceable as a guide and educator to some of the American Wheat industry's finest representatives. His contribution to the work of U.S. Wheat Associates has been vital, and we anticipate calling on him often for consulting assistance when we need his special insight." Dickerson was General Sales Manager and Associate Administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service between 1989 and 1991. From 1986 to 1989 he was a consultant and marketing agent in the Pacific Northwest, and from 1978 to 1986 he was President and Chief Operating Officer of Columbia Grain, Inc. in Portland, Ore. From 1960 to 1978, he was in management and trading positions for Cargill and Cook Industries, Inc., working in the U.S. and several overseas locations. He joined U.S. Wheat Associates in 1992.
