Veneman names members to popcorn promotion boardSecretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman has announced the reappointment of three members of the Popcorn Board. "I am pleased that these individuals have agreed to return to serve on the Popcorn Promotion Board," said Veneman. The following board members were reappointed for the term beginning Jan. 1, 2004, and ending Dec. 31, 2006: Richard Duty of Denver; Garrett K. Smith of Sioux City, Iowa; and Robert E. Metzger of Delphos, Ohio. The board, authorized by the Popcorn Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act, conducts promotion, research and consumer information activities to maintain and expand the popcorn market. The nine-member board is composed of eligible popcorn processors who normally process and distribute over 4 million pounds of popcorn annually. The nominees were appointed from nominations submitted by the industry. USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service monitors the operations of the Popcorn Board. The program is funded by assessments paid by processors, and the board reimburses the federal government for the cost of administering the program. Date: 1/29/04
