Expanded product lineup offers more seeding choicesCaption (Image No. 89392) - The John Deere DB90 Planter--a 36-row, 30-inch-spaced planter built in partnership with Bauer Built Mfg.--is one of several new additions to the John Deere planting and seeding product offering. From a new mega-sized planter that makes short work of large fields to no-till air drills tailored for small to mid-size producers, the new additions to the John Deere seeding lineup offer growers more choices than ever. Topping the list is the new DB90 Planter, built in partnership with Bauer Built Manufacturing. The DB90 is a 36-row, 30-inch-spaced planter that features John Deere MaxEmergeª Plus row units and a front-fold, five-section Bauer Built flex frame. The new frame design of the DB90 offers greater strength and flexibility. All four flex points move up and down 15 degrees relative to the center section. Transport width is a narrow 16 feet with 26 inches of ground clearance; transport length is 55 feet. "The DB90 is very stable in transport thanks to its narrow transport width, low center of gravity and greater ground clearance. And in-field maneuverability has been improved through a telescoping hitch design that allows the planter to be coupled closer to the tractor." says Mike Pitzer, project manager, John Deere Seeding Works. MaxEmerge Plus Row units and John Deere-designed vacuum seed meters that come as standard equipment on the DB90 help ensure optimum seeding accuracy and productivity. "The vacuum meters can be used with a variety of crops. They provide 20 percent higher ground speed than mechanical metering systems, offer superior performance and require less maintenance than other systems," Pitzer notes. "Plus, growers can boost overall productivity in the field by selecting the three-bushel seed hoppers that are available as an option on the DB90." The DB90 Planter also features a SeedStarª variable rate drive that allows an operator to control hydraulic motors to change population rates on the go from the tractor cab. This system enhances operator efficiency and ensures ideal seed populations based on field conditions. New additions, more choices Other additions to the John Deere seeding equipment lineup for 2004 include the John Deere 1770NT CCS Front-Fold Planter and new working widths for the John Deere 1690CCS and 1890CCS No-Till Air Drills. A new frame, hydraulics, drive system and markers, along with the Central Commodity System (CCS), make the 1770NT CCS the most productive 24-row 30-inch spaced planter John Deere has ever produced. The 1770NT CCS folds to a narrow 12-foot transport width, with 23-inches of under-frame clearance. Transport length has also been shortened 2-feet to improve maneuverability and aid in transport from field to field. The planter is available with either the Pro-Seriesª or MaxEmerge Plus row units. John Deere has expanded its no-till air drill offering for 2004 with the addition of 30- and 35-foot models of the 1690CCS and 30- and 36-foot versions of the 1890CCS. All of these units are equipped with the 70-bushel single-compartment Central Commodity System. "These new models deliver exceptional value to small- to mid-sized operators," says Steve Detrick, project manager, John Deere Seeding Group. "They can run at faster ground speeds than conventional box drills or row-crop planters, and the CCS allows you to spend more time in the field and less time filling. All of this means more acres per day. In addition, the 1690CCS and 1890CCS are very accurate seeding tools, which means lower seed costs, especially in soybeans." "These new models are well-balanced for small- to mid-sized operators," says Steve Detrick, project manager, John Deere Seeding Works. "These tools offer smaller transport and storage dimensions, lower horsepower requirements and greater maneuverability in smaller fields."
