Wyobraska cattle sales report
The combined sales volume of Wyoming, western Nebraska and western North and South Dakota auctions for the week ending Dec. 18, totaled 6,045 head, compared to 6,200 head last week and 4,900 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Torrington, Wyo.
Compared to last week at the Wyoming auctions, steer and heifers sold steady to $2 higher, with instances of heifers 450- to 550-pounds steady to $2 lower. In the direct feeder cattle trade feeder steers and heifers sold $2 lower. Direct trade was slow. Demand was moderate. Buyer and seller inquiry was moderate. Unless otherwise noted direct prices are current FOB with a 2 to 3 percent shrink or equivalent and with a 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 3 to 6 cents slide on yearlings from base weight. Steers made up 55% of the supply, heifers 45%, with 45 percent weighing over 600 pounds. Direct sales accounted for 1245 head of the total receipts.
