Veneman names OFU V.P. Detrick to beef promotion boardOklahoma "Oklahoma Farmers Union is extremely proud to have had Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman name our vice president, Terry Detrick, to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board," said Ray L. Wulf, Oklahoma Farmers Union president. "Terry will serve a three-year term, beginning Feb. 6, 2005." Also appointed from Oklahoma is Mike E. Brooks. Terry Detrick, Ames, Okla., is currently serving his fourth term as vice president of Oklahoma Farmers Union. He has served the state-wide family farm organization on the local, county, regional, state and national levels; is a second-generation Farmers Union member and a third-generation family farmer-rancher with a cow-calf and stocker cattle operation that includes production of small grains and forage. Detrick has also served as president of the Oklahoma Wheat Growers Association (OWGA) and the National Association of Wheat Growers; is a long-time member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and since January 2004 has served as one of 35 members of the U. S. Animal Identification Plan Beef Working Group. He also currently serves on the Dean's Advisory Committee at Oklahoma State University; and is chairman of the Oklahoma Agriculture Mediation Program Advisory Board (OAMP), the Institute for Issue Management and Alternative Dispute Resolution Board (IIMADR), and the Oklahoma Farmers Union Sustainable Energy Board (OKFUSE). In addition, he has been appointed since 1999 to The Food and Agriculture Roundtable by the Central District Federal Reserve in Kansas City in its Study of Rural America, as well as serving on the board of Rural Oklahoma Development Council (RODC). "I am looking forward to this opportunity to serve Oklahoma's beef producers as we continue marketing our products and developing more ways to do it better," Detrick said.
