Tulsa stockyard sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., Dec. 20 reported receipts of 1,520 head, compared to 3,302 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steers were steady to $2 higher. Heifers were $3 to $5 higher. Quality was plain to average. Demand was good on all classes with good attendance of buyers. Weigh to ups were mostly gaunt to average. Receipts were comprised of 49% steers, 37% heifers, 15% bulls with 28% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were $2 lower. A total of 203 cows and bulls sold with 54% going to packers. Many thin cows going back to the country. The next sale of the new year will be Jan. 5, 2005.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 17 head, 360 to 398 lbs., 132.00 to 142.00 (137.73); 400 to 435 lbs., 128.00 to 141.00 (133.43); 453 to 490 lbs., 121.00 to 129.50 (125.94); 500 to 548 lbs., 115.00 to 124.00 (118.16); 18 head, 553 to 588 lbs., 109.00 to 116.00 (111.54); 18 head, 600 to 635 lbs., 100.50 to 108.50 (105.28); 822 to 835 lbs., 98.60 to 100.50 (99.80). Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 19 head, 855 to 868 lbs., 85.50 to 95.00 (91.47). Medium and large frame 2, 7 head, 250 to 294 lbs., 129.00 to 138.00 (130.85); 8 head, 323 to 339 lbs., 130.00 to 134.00 (131.22); 11 head, 350 to 385 lbs., 129.00 to 131.00 (129.92); 10 head, 400 to 445 lbs., 119.00 to 128.00 (123.31); 12 head, 450 to 488 lbs., 107.00 to 116.50 (113.74).

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 12 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1375 to 1575 lbs., 46.50 to 49.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 53.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 46.50. Boners, 23 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1600 lbs., 47.00 to 50.00; high dressing, 51.00 to 52.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 46.50. Lean, 25 head, 85 to 90% lean, 925 to 1375 lbs., 46.50 to 49.00; high dressing, 50.00 to 52.50; low dressing, 42.00 to 45.50. Light, 25 head, 85 to 90% lean, 700 to 975 lbs., 36.50 to 39.00; high dressing, 41.00 to 47.00; low dressing, 31.50 to 35.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 21 head, 1375 to 2050 lbs., 58.50 to 61.50; low dressing, 53.50 to 57.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 years old, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 5 months bred, average quality, 840.00 to 975.00.
