Tri State cow calf symposium, trade show scheduled for Jan. 29

Kansas

The Tri State Cow Calf Symposium and Trade Show "Focus on Information and Opportunities" will be held Jan. 29, 2005 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. CST at the St. Francis Community High School in St. Francis.

The event, sponsored by Kansas State University Research and Extension, Colorado State University and the University of Nebraska, is designed specifically for beef cattle producers in northwest Kansas, southwest Nebraska and northeast Colorado, according to K-State Extension northwest area livestock specialist, Sandy Johnson.

The advance registration fee is $20 per person if paid by Jan. 25. For operations with more than one attendee, the cost is $15 for each additional attendee. A $30 registration fee goes into effect after Jan. 25 and at the door. The fee covers trade show activities, a meal, and the proceedings for the day

"The cow/calf industry is in a very dynamic state at present," said Tye Faulkender, Cheyenne County Extension director. "Cattlemen of the Tri State region are progressive minded and the Tri-State Cow/Calf Symposium will be an informative and useful tool. We look forward to bringing this highly informational event to the cattlemen of the area."

"Issues such as food safety, animal identification and the reopening of foreign markets are challenging the industry," said Johnson. "As these issues are resolved there will be opportunities for producers who are willing to meet the increasing demands of the market place."

The event's trade show will feature a variety of industry exhibitors.

--Update on the National Animal ID Program: George Teagarden, Kansas Livestock Commissioner;
