St. Onge livestock auction report
The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported receipts of 1,106 head Dec. 17, compared to 2,038 head last week and 718 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Feeder cattle sold mostly steady with last week. Feeders offered in mostly small lots, except for one load of steers. Slaughter cows sold steady. Slaughter bulls were too few to test. Feeder receipts included 57% steers and 43% heifers, with 63% over 600 pounds. Receipts were about 52% feeders, 20% females back to the country, 12% bred females, 12% slaughter cows and 2 percent slaughter bulls. Buyer demand good for all classes offered. The next sale will be January 7,2005.
Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 10 head, 428 to 435 lbs., 129.00 to 131.50 (130.26); 17 head, 469 to 483 lbs., 123.50 to 129.50 (126.26); 19 head, 514 to 548 lbs., 117.50 to 121.00 (119.66); 551 to 562 lbs., 114.00 to 118.50 (115.17); 616 to 639 lbs., 108.50 to 109.00 (108.75); 17 head, 627 lbs., 106.50 full; 84 head, 665 lbs., 112.00; 8 head, 675 to 699 lbs., 98.00 to 106.00 (101.93) full. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 7 head, 532 to 541 lbs., 111.00 to 113.50 (112.44); 5 head, 604 lbs., 104.00; 681 to 688 lbs., 103.75 to 104.25 (103.99).
Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 508 to 537 lbs., 109.00 to 113.50 (109.54); 5 head, 503 lbs., 122.50 replacement; 559 to 592 lbs., 104.75 to 107.75 (107.41); 607 to 643 lbs., 104.00 to 107.00 (105.39); 10 head, 602 lbs., 108.75 replacement. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 12 head, 458 to 487 lbs., 122.00 to 125.00 (122.96); 5 head, 585 lbs., 98.50; 5 head, 613 lbs., 103.00.
Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 1393 to 1610 lbs., 48.00 to 50.50; high dressing, 52.00; low dressing, 43.00 to 44.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 930 to 1450 lbs., 43.50 to 48.50; high dressing, 49.00; low dressing, 39.00 to 43.00.
Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, heifers, 810 to 1055 lbs., 83.00 to 91.00, few 95.00 to 95.50; 2 years old, 905 to 1208 lbs., 65.00 to 74.00, few 78.50 to 80.00. Heiferettes, 875 to 1255 lbs., 55.00 to 63.00. Feeder and exposed cows, large frame 1, 1395 to 1550 lbs., 49.00 to 53.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 865 to 1355 lbs., 49.00 to 53.00, few younger 54.50 to 55.00.
