OPSU posts bull test updateOklahoma The beef bulls in the 53rd annual Beef Performance Test at the OPSU Central Testing Station were weighed Saturday 12-04-04. Halfway through the 112-day testing period, twenty eight bulls are gaining over 5.0 lbs. per day. The average daily gain (ADG) of all bulls on test is 4.52 lbs. Their weight-per-day-of-age (WDA) is 3.31 lbs. The bulls complete the 112 day test Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005. An Angus bull of Phil Light, Turpin, Okla., leads the junior age bulls with an ADG of 6.30 lbs. This bull is sired by Millers Bullseye J373. Light also has the third ranked junior at 6.07 lbs. on an Angus sired by Bon View New Design 878. H&H Simmentals, Weatherford, Okla., has the second ranked junior at 6.25 lbs. Phil Light's pen of four Angus with an ADG of 5.12 lbs. leads the junior pen division. He also has the second place pen with an ADG of 5.03 lbs. The sires represented in these pens are: Millers Bullseye, Basin Rainmaker, Bon View New Design, Gardens Highmark, GAR Precision, Summitcrest Hi Flyer and PL Traveler. The H&H pen of four Simmental bulls is third with an ADG of 5.01 lbs. The senior age bulls are led by an Angus with an ADG of 7.14 lbs. This bull consigned by Al Rutledge, Stillwater, is a son of Bon View New Design 1407. Larry Weinkauf's Angus bull #26-3 is second with an ADG of 6.98 lbs. Dwight Waugh of Kingfisher, has the third ranked senior bull with an ADG of 6.57 lbs. on his Simmental #5-1. Two other senior bulls are over six pounds, Larry Weinkauf's SAF New Design K500 sired Angus at 6.39 lbs. and an H&H Simmental bull at 6.16 lbs. Al Rutledge's pen of three Angus leads the senior pen division with an ADG of 5.80 lbs. Two of these bulls are sons of Bon View New Design 1405 and the other is a son of TC Moonshine 001. B&M Angus of Edmond, has the second place pen at 5.42 lbs. on two sons of ALC Royce 0243 and a son of RR Rainmaker 8153. Larry Weinkauf's pen of three Angus is third with an ADG of 5.22 lbs. H&H's Simmental pen of four Simmentals and Phil Light's pen of four Angus are tied as the most efficient pen of bulls in converting feed to gain with an as-fed feed conversion of 5.29 lbs. of feed per lb. of gain. The top end of these bulls will be consigned to the 53rd annual OPSU Performance Tested Bull Sale. The sale is set for Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005 at 1 p.m. (CST) in the England Activity Building, University Farm, Goodwell.
