Tulsa cattle sales report

The Tulsa Stockyards, Tulsa, Okla., reported receipts of 2,606 head Aug. 23, compared to 2,664 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, light weight steers were $2 to $3 lower. Feeder steers were steady except for 400- to 500-pounds steers were $2 to $3 higher. Light weight heifers were mostly steady, with feeder heifers $2 to $3 higher. Quality was fair to attractive. Strong showing of buyers with very strong demand. Cattle were in fair to medium condition with a few fleshy. Weigh to ups were mostly average. Receipts were comprised of 43% steers, heifers 42%, bulls 15%, with 26% of cattle over 600 pounds. A total of 306 cows and bulls sold with 54% to packers. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $1 higher. A total of 306 cows and bulls sold with 54% going to packers.

Lean, 32 head, 85 to 90% lean, 975 to 1275 lbs., 55.00 to 59.00; high dressing, 60.00 to 65.00; low dressing, 49.00 to 54.00. Light, 27 head, 85 to 90% lean, 775 to 975 lbs., 50.50 to 55.00; high dressing, 56.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 49.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 40 head, 1100 to 2225 lbs., 68.50 to 73.50; high dressing, 74.50 to 83.50; low dressing, 62.00 to 67.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 5 to 6 years old, 1050 to 1300 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, average quality, 800.00 to 900.00; 8 to 10 years old, 1050 to 1200 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality 790.00 to 880.00.
