Third candidate named for ag vice chancellor, dean at TAMU

A third candidate has been invited for interviews by the search advisory committee for the position of Vice Chancellor and Dean, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Director, Texas Agricultural Experiment Station at Texas A&M University:

Dr. Thomas L. Payne, Vice Chancellor and Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Missouri will visit Aug. 25 and 26.

Two other candidates also visiting Texas A&M are Dr. Elsa A. Murano, Undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service, and Dr. John C. Owens, Vice President and Harlan Vice Chancellor, at the University of Nebraska.

The candidates will visit with numerous faculty, staff and student groups, as well as industry, government and commodity groups during upcoming on-campus interviews.

The Vice Chancellor and Dean provides administrative and academic leadership for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences within Texas A&M University, and the statewide agricultural agencies and services of the A&M System: the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, Texas Cooperative Extension, Texas Forest Service, and the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. The Vice Chancellor also provides leadership for cooperative and collaborative linkages among these entities and the agriculture colleges and departments at five A&M System Universities, which collectively form the A&M System Agriculture Program.

The Vice Chancellor, Dean and Director administers Agriculture Program funds of approximately $281 million. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has fourteen academic departments, and more than 6,600 students. The Texas Agricultural Experiment Station has an annual operating budget of more than $135 million.
