St. Onge livestock sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, S.D., reported 3,959 head Aug. 19, compared to 1,191 head last week and 5,647 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

This was the first large run of feeder lambs for this season. Compared to last week, feeder lambs sold $4 to $5 higher than last week's less liberal numbers. Many buyers present with strong demand for the feeder lambs. Most were of attractive quality. Good and Utility slaughter ewes sold steady while the Cull ewes sold $5 higher. Receipts were about 82% feeder lambs, 9% replacement ewes, 8% slaughter ewes and the balance was bucks, miscellaneous sheep and goats.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 47 to 49 lbs., 133.00 to 139.50 (137.83); 51 head, 56 lbs., 133.50; 62 to 66 lbs., 127.50 to 130.00 (128.29); 70 to 79 lbs., 117.50 to 125.00 (122.88); 81 to 89 lbs., 112.50 to 120.50 (117.25); 92 to 99 lbs., 107.00 to 114.00 (111.05); 15 head, 99 lbs., 104.25 fleshy; 100 to 108 lbs., 105.00 to 109.50 (106.93); 24 head, 108 lbs., 97.75 fleshy; 111 to 112 lbs., 94.25 to 95.75 (95.09); 126 to 129 lbs., 90.25 to 93.75 (93.19). Medium frame 1 and 2, 16 head, 68 lbs., 115.50; 85 head, 86 lbs., 110.75; 31 head, 94 lbs., 105.75; 66 head, 112 lbs., 94.00 fleshy.

Slaughter ewes: Shorn, 121 head, Good Yield grade 2 to 3, 165 lbs., 41.00; 36 head, Good Yield grade 2 to 4, 195 lbs., 41.25; 93 head, Utility Yield grade 1 and 2, 146 to 154 lbs., 40.00 to 40.75; 38 head, Cull Yield grade 1, 138 lbs., 36.25.

Replacement ewes: Open, Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 172 head yearlings, 133 lbs., 150.00; 90 head yearlings, 141 lbs., 140.00; 38 head yearlings, 115 to 119 lbs., 101.00 to 111.00; 43 head, 2 to 4 years, 158 to 174 lbs., 81.00 to 92.00.
