St. Onge cattle auction news

The St. Onge Livestock Sales Co., Ltd., St. Onge, S.D., reported 987 head Aug. 20, compared to 457 head last week and 1,720 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, offering of feeder calves offered in mostly small lots sold steady. No test on yearlings due to light receipts the last few sales. Feeder receipts included 67% steers, and 33% heifers, with 78% over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows sold $2 to $3 lower on a light test. Slaughter bulls, lacking the yield of last weeks offering sold $2 lower. Receipts this week included about 79% feeder cattle, 9% slaughter bulls, 7% females back to the country, 4% slaughter cows and the balance was mostly feeder bulls.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 10 head, 388 lbs., 144.00; 402 to 440 lbs., 140.50 to 146.00 (143.45); 10 head, 495 lbs., 137.00; 19 head, 502 lbs., 141.00; 8 head, 709 to 744 lbs., 116.50 to 119.50 (118.04); 807 to 809 lbs., 112.25 to 117.75 (116.10); 862 to 874 lbs., 115.35 to 117.75 (116.35); 60 head, 913 lbs., 112.50. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 8 head, 399 lbs., 134.00; 822 to 824 lbs., 108.00 to 110.00 (109.62); 17 head, 893 lbs., 109.50. Large frame 1, 12 head, 909 lbs., 107.75; 1013 to 1049 lbs., 100.00 to 104.00 (102.13).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 9 head, 375 to 395 lbs., 142.00; 406 to 408 lbs., 135.00 to 142.00 (138.96); 17 head, 464 lbs., 140.00; 7 head, 706 118.50 thin; 5 head, 776 lbs., 115.00 thin; 23 head, 869 lbs., 111.00; 904 to 941 lbs., 105.75 to 110.00 (108.94); 8 head, 936 lbs., 105.50 fleshy; 17 head, 954 to 979 lbs., 103.50 to 105.25 (104.52); 9 head, 1000 lbs., 106.00. Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 7 head, 910 to 937 lbs., 101.00 to 103.00 (101.87). Large frame 1, 6 head, 413 lbs., 125.00; 6 head, 1129 lbs., 93.50 fleshy.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, few, 75 to 80% lean, 1460 to 1715 lbs., 53.50 to 56.50. Boners, few, 80 to 85% lean, 1430 to 1520 lbs., 55.00 to 58.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1480 lbs., 53.00 to 55.75; high dressing, 58.00 to 58.50; low dressing, 45.00 to 51.00.

Replacement females: Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 2 years old, 965 to 1105 lbs., 67.00 to 76.00; feeder cows, Large frame 1, 1395 to 1650 lbs., 55.75 to 57.50; couple full, 53.50 to 54.00; feeder cows, Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 1075 to 1360 lbs., 54.50 to 59.00; younger and smooth, 61.00 to 62.00; older, thin or full, 51.00 to 52.00; exposed cows, short term, exposed black to calve March 20, Medium and large frame 1 and 2, 16 head, black, 1222 to 1318 lbs., 56.50 to 58.00; 9 head, Charolais X, 1253 to 1282 lbs., 55.50 to 56.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 1305 to 2340 lbs., 65.00 to 69.25; high dressing, 69.75 to 72.75; low dressing, 60.00 to 64.50.
