Oglesby, Redden and Miller honored with pro performance breeders awardsThe Pro Performance Breeders Award was awarded to three members of the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA), during the awards banquet on Thursday, July 29, at the 2004 Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Tunica, Miss. The 2004 recipients are: first place, Jennifer Oglesby, Wadley, Ga.; second place, Ike Redden, Norman, Ind.; and third place, Emilie Miller, Womelsdorf, Pa. The purpose of this award is to recognize NJHA members who utilize performance records in their breeding programs and to acquaint all junior members with the advantages of performance reporting. The scholarships are sponsored by Pro Performance Breeders: Mead Cattle Enterprises, Midvalle, Ga., Crooked Lake Ranch, Frostproof, Fla., Bent Tree Cattle Co., Ft. Payne, Ala., and Felton Ranch, Clarinda, Iowa. Jennifer Oglesby is the 20 year-old daughter of Chris and Lynne Oglesby. She served on the NJHA Board of Directors from 2000-2003 and held the offices of secretary and director. This fall she will be a senior at Georgia College and State University majoring in nursing. Oglesby received $300 and a package of 10 straws of semen and two AI certificates on the Pro Performance Breeder's bull of her choice. Ike Redden is the 22 year-old son of Tom and Jackie Redden. He will start his senior year at the University of Indiana this fall where he is majoring in education. At the JNHE, Redden retired from the NJHA Board of Directors, he placed third in senior showmanship, exhibited the reserve champion cow-calf pair, showed a division winner in the owned polled heifer show, and was the first place Junior Merit Scholarship recipient. Redden will receive $100, five straws of semen and one AI certificate. Emilie Miller is the 18 year-old daughter of Mike and Sheila Miller. She serves on the NJHA Board of Directors and has held the offices of secretary and director. She currently is a sophomore at Kansas State University majoring in animal science and industry with a pre-veterinary option. Miller will receive $100, five straws of semen and one AI certificate.
