Woodward auction report

The Woodward Livestock Auction, Woodward, Okla., reported receipts of 4,589 head April 16, compared to 2,888 head last week, according to the USDA Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $1 higher, over 900 pounds were $2 higher. Feeder heifers were $1 to $2.50 higher. Steer calves were steady. Heifer calves were steady, stocker heifers were $1 to $2 lower. Demand was very good for all classes. Fill was average to few full. Quality was average to attractive, few plain. The supply was comprised of 54% steers, 44% heifers with 90% weighing over 600 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady. A total of 523 cows and bulls sold with 58% going to packers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 8 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1600 to 1900 lbs., 49.00 to 50.00 (54.00). Boners, 170 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1125 to 1500 lbs., 50.00 to 52.00; high dressing, 54.00 to 58.50; low dressing, 45.00 to 48.00. Lean, 99 head, 85 to 90% lean, 850 to 1200 lbs., 49.00 to 51.00; high dressing, 51.75 to 53.00; low dressing, 47.00 to 48.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 and 2, 29 head, 1500 to 2225 lbs., 63.00 to 65.00; high dressing, 66.00 to 69.00; low dressing, 57.00 to 60.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1, 1 and 2 years old, 875 to 1100 lbs., 7 months bred, average quality, 760.00; 7 to 10 years old, 1275 to 1400 lbs., 5 to 8 months bred, average quality, 780.00 to 790.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 6 years old, 1300 lbs., with 200-lb. calves, high quality blacks, 1250.00; 5 to 7 years old, 1075 to 1125 lbs., with 100- to 275-lb. calves, average quality blacks, 1010.00 to 1125.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1050 lbs., with 350- to 375-lb. calves, average quality, 1050.00; 8 to 10 years old, 1100 lbs., with calves, average quality, 875.00.
