Wheat board announces openingsNebraska The Nebraska Wheat Development, Utilization and Marketing Board announces openings in Districts No.1 and No. 6 for appointment by Governor Mike Johanns. The term of office begins on July 1. District No. 1 includes the counties of Sioux, Scotts Bluff, Dawes, Box Butte, Morrill, Sheridan, and Garden. The counties in District No. 6 are Adams, Webster, Nuckolls, Thayer, Jefferson, Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Pawnee, Richardson, Otoe, Cass, Lancaster, Seward, York, Hamilton, Hall, Sherman, Howard, Merrick, Nance, Polk, Butler, Saunders, Sarpy, Douglas, Washington, Dodge, Colfax, Platte, Burt, Cuming, Stanton, Madison, Boone, Valley, Greeley, Antelope, Pierce, Wayne, Thurston, Dakota, Dixon, Cedar, Knox, Wheeler, Garfield, Loup, Blaine, Brown, Rock, Holt, Boyd, Keya Paha, Clay, Fillmore, and Saline. Any Wheat producer interested in the appointment may submit his or her name to the Governor's office for consideration. Qualified individuals residing in any of the mentioned counties will be eligible for consideration. Interested producers can write to Whitney Bunkers, Office of Governor Mike Johanns, P.O. Box 94848, Lincoln, NE 68509-4848, or call 402/471-1971 to obtain an application. Applications are due in the Governor's office by June 1. Qualified candidates include those who are citizens of Nebraska, are at least 21 years of age, have been actually engaged in growing Wheat in this state for a period of at least five years, and derive a substantial portion of their income from growing wheat. Seven Wheat producers comprise the Wheat Board and serve terms of five-years. The Wheat Board administers the one- and one-quarter cent per bushel checkoff levied on Wheat marketed in Nebraska. The Board traditionally invests the funds in programs of international and domestic market development and improvement, policy development, research and promotion education.
