Weld County Horse Judging Team 3rd at Logan County ContestColorado Continuing their success, the Weld County Horse Judging Team finished 3rd overall against youth teams from around the state at the Logan County judging contest April 3. Horse judging teams are composed of individuals who each place eight classes of both halter and performance horses. Team member's individual placings are then compared to the placing of an official panel of judges and assigned a score. Students are then required to defend their placing by presenting sets of oral reasons to an official judge. Each team member's placing and reason scores are compiled and at the end of the day, the team with the highest compiled scores wins the contest. Weld County's senior team was 3rd high team overall. Competing on the team were Megan Grieve, Fort Collins; Amber Hammerbeck, Greeley; Rachel Padilla, Eaton; and Jessica Johnson, Greeley. Individual placings were Megan 7th in halter, 6th in performance, 9th in reasons and 6th individual overall; Amber 8th in halter; and Jessica 8th in performance and 10th individual overall. The team is coached by Colorado State University students Lianna Scholz and Jeff Johnson, Fort Collins. Date: 4/15/04
