Goldthwaite sheep and goat sales

The Mills County Commission Co., Goldthwaite, TX, reported receipts of 1,080 head of sheep and goats Jan. 3, compared with 1,444 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, TX.

Compared to last sale, there were not enough feeder lambs for a good market test. Slaughter lambs were steady to firm, on a light test. There were not enough stock and feeder goats for a good market test. Slaughter goats were $5 to $7 higher. Demand was good. Supply included around 20% sheep, including near 100 lambs.

Stock sheep: Ewes, medium and large frame 1 to 2, few, 125 lbs., 43.50. Pairs, with small lambs, 42.50 per head. Bucks, 115.00 to 170.00 per head. Barbados, ewes, few, 72 lbs., 41.00. Pairs, few, 37.00 per head. Bucks, 65.00 to 100.00 per head.

Slaughter lambs: Choice and Prime, 50 to 70 lbs., 90.00 to 110.00. Barbados, lambs, 40 to 70 lbs., 90.00 to 111.00. Bucks, 80 to 100 lbs., 64.00 to 72.00.

Slaughter classes: Kids, Selection 1, 20 to 40 lbs., 110.00 to 126.00; 40 to 60 lbs., 110.00 to 119.00; 60 to 80 lbs., 95.00 to 108.00. Selection 2, 40 to 60 lbs., 100.00 to 107.00. Nannies, 70 to 120 lbs., 45.00 to 58.00; few, light weights, 61.00 to 65.00. Billies, 90 to 140 lbs., 70.00 to 80.00. Muttons, Selection 1, 80 to 100 lbs., 90.00 to 97.00.

Replacement classes: Kids: Selection 1, 40 to 60 lbs., fancy, 112.00 to 120.00. Nannies, Selection 1, 105.00 to 165.00 per head. Selection 2, 90 to 140 lbs., 50.00 to 71.00. Pairs, few, 35.50 per head. Billies, Selection 1, 100 to 140 lbs., 88.00 to 117.50.
