GM foods off the menu at Monsanto staff canteen in UKCategory: General LONDON (B)--U.S. biotech giant Monsanto confirmed Dec. 21 that the staff canteen at its site in High Wycombe, north west of London, has banned genetically modified ingredients from its food. The catering company running the canteen, Sutcliffe Catering, has "taken the decision to remove, as far as is practicable, GM soya and maize from all food products served in our restaurant." A statement to customers explained that it had taken the decision "to ensure that you, the customer, can feel confident in the food we serve." Monsanto said the canteen at the High Wycombe site uses outside caterers. "We believe in choice," said Tony Combes, director of Corporate Affairs. "At our Monsanto Cambridge restaurant, the notice there says that some products may contain GMOs because our staff are happy to eat foods which have been sprayed with less pesticides."
