|
Directions: Melt 1/2 cup sugar in heavy skillet. Stir continuously so mixture will not scorch. Add 1 cup sugar, water and 1 tablespoon butter. Boil 3 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Dumplings: Cream together 1 tablespoon butter and 1/2 cup sugar. Add milk, salt, 1 teaspoon vanilla, baking powder and enough flour to make a stiff dough. Drop by teaspoonfuls into hot syrup. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. Baste with syrup while baking. Serve with whipped cream.
Notes: This recipe has been in my family since the 1940's. It is made with very basic ingredients and quite easy to make.
