Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 large apples, chopped
1/2 cup walnuts (or nuts of choice)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Directions: Cream together sugar and butter. Add egg, flour, baking soda, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, apples and nuts. Mix thoroughly. Spread into greased 8x9 inch square pan.
Topping: Mix brown sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, 1 tablespoon cinnamon and melted butter. Pour over top of cake batter. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes or until middle is firm.
Notes: While growing up in Pennsylvania Dutch country, this was a favorite treat during the fall.
