Scalloped Turnips

Ingredients:
6 (large) turnips, diced
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
half and half or light cream
2 tablespoons sugar
1 (heaping) tablespoon flour
milk
butter












Directions: Combine turnips and soda, add to water, cover and bring to a boil. Drain, cover with fresh water, add salt and cook until almost done. Drain, put into a buttered 7x12 inch baking dish. Add just enough half & half or cream to cover, set aside. In small bowl mix sugar, flour and enough milk to make a thin sauce. Pour over turnips and milk. Dot with butter, bake at 275°F for 1 hour.
